Neora’s Amber Olson Rourke Gives Fall Skincare Tips on “Good Morning Texas”

Having an adaptable skincare routine that changes with the seasons is key for keeping healthy and youthful-looking skin all year! Neora Co-Founder and President Amber Olson Rourke recently joined “Good Morning Texas” host Erin Hunter to share her best practices for fall skincare tips so people can keep their skin protected and glowing during the seasonal shifts.

As the temperatures start to drop and the weather gets cooler, Amber explains, extra hydration and a more delicate exfoliation process are needed to avoid dry, flaky skin and offer extra protection from environmental stressors. The fall is also a great time to replenish and revitalize the skin from all the damage caused by the summer sun.

Exfoliation Without Irritation

“In winter, it’s all about being gentle on our skin,” Amber says. “So, you’ll want to use something that has a little bit of exfoliation but is also gentle.”

She suggests using silicone scrubbers to remove dirt, oil, and makeup. Not only are these gentle tools affordable, but they are less likely to irritate—especially for more sensitive skin types. It’s important to exfoliate once or twice a week to remove the dead skin cells and improve circulation. Over-exfoliation can strip the skin of its natural protective barrier.

From Despair to Repair

Amber also recommends switching to a gentle face cleanser without surfactants and artificial fragrances, which can be harsh and irritate the skin. As far as keeping the skin hydrated, her winter tip is choosing a moisturizer that has multiple moisturizing ingredients that are designed to penetrate several layers to get the best results.

“Our skin is good at its job, so it’s our job to not damage it,” Amber says. “You don’t want to over-exfoliate and should avoid any harsh acids that are going to disrupt that microbiome and anything that can lead to drying.”

So the rule of thumb to keeping your skin healthy, hydrated and glowing through the season? Letting your skin do its job and choosing clean products that deliver gentle, yet effective results.
