How To Choose the Best Sunscreen for Your Face

Let’s face it. None of us is getting any younger, but that doesn’t mean we have to look – or even act – our age. Put your best face forward by protecting it with the right sunscreen. Not every sunscreen is created equal, and facial skin is especially delicate and constantly exposed to sunlight. So, here’s a quick guide on how to find the best sunscreen for your face.

The Meaning of SPF: What’s Your Number?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and it represents how long the product will protect you from sunburn. Look for an SPF of 25 to 30 or higher, especially if you spend a lot of time outdoors. The SPF 40 found in Neora’s Age IQ® Invisi-Bloc® Sunscreen Gel means that it will filter out more than 97 percent of UVB rays.

Even more important is to make sure the label says “Broad Spectrum.” Before we understood the dangers of sunburns, manufacturers were solely concerned with UVB protection. As they learned more, they started to incorporate ingredients that also protected against UVA rays. “Broad spectrum” means the sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB in the right proportion. While UVA and UVB are an abbreviation for Ultraviolet A and Ultraviolet B, an easy way to remember why you need protection from both is to think of A for Aging and B for Burning.

Are You Into the Blues? Bluelight Effects on Skin

Your grandmother might think of blue light as a special sale at a discount retailer. Today’s more tech-savvy women understand that blue light refers to that eerie color that emanates from our computers, laptops, cell phones, TVs and other electronics. While blue light hasn’t been shown to cause skin cancer, it can damage your skin’s collagen, increase wrinkling and change pigmentation. Who needs that when it’s so easy to use Neora’s Age IQ® Invisi-Bloc®? Its special blend of ingredients protects against blue light damage and other environmental stressors.

SPF for Your Skin: What’s Your Type?

We’re all different and beautiful in our own way, and that includes our skin. If your skin tends to be dry, look for a sunscreen that will moisturize your skin without making it feel excessively greasy. If your skin leans toward being oily, choose a sunscreen that is a mousse, water-based or gel-based. Especially good are sunscreens with a matte finish. We understand how annoying it can be to use a sunscreen that leaves you feeling greasy. If you have sensitive skin, choosing the right sunscreen for sensitive skin seems much like trial and error. That’s why Invisi-Bloc® has SPF microcapsules that absorb into your skin easily without a milky or greasy residue and contain no harmful chemicals that could irritate sensitivity. And, remember, it doesn’t matter whether your skin is light or dark or if you “easily tan” – everyone needs sunscreen.

Keep Applying that Sunscreen: It’s Easy!

We all know how important it is to always use sunscreen, but do we really reapply as often as the label says? And do we apply it correctly? For optimal effectiveness, sunscreen should be applied in the morning after your moisturizer alone, or before applying makeup. Reapply at least every two hours and more frequently if you’re exercising or in the water. And don’t forget to reapply after you get out of the pool; when you dry off with a towel, you’re also rubbing off your sunscreen.
