At Neora, The Grass is Greener on our Side

November 15 is America Recycles Day, when millions in the U.S. step up their efforts to recycle and purchase green products. Given the recent climate calamities we have all witnessed across the globe, this year more than ever, recycling should be on everyone’s lips—as well as their fingertips. This holds true for the beauty industry, too.

Beauty can come at a high price to our precious earth. With its many components, beauty packaging, which includes loads of cardboard, paper and plastic, globally generates more than 120 billion units of packaging a year, contributing to 18 million acres of deforestation, the littering ocean floors, and the growth of already engorged landfills¹.

Less is More at Neora

At Neora, in our continuous commitment to reduce our carbon footprint, we have redesigned our packaging to use less paper and glue to successfully reduce our overall packaging. Gone are the paper instruction booklets on the insides of our packages. In our efforts to go greener, Neora packages now come in origami-inspired boxes, inscribed with instructions and ingredients, which can be unfolded and flattened for reading and later, for recycling. And we are not just stopping there: we will continue to reduce packaging and make more of our product components recyclable and biodegradable. Did you know that even the shrink wrap on all Neora products is recyclable and biodegradable?

Helping Guide the Way

In addition to our remarkable reduction of packaging, we have also created the Neora Product Recycling Guide to let you know which product components are recyclable for each Neora product and decoding the different recycling symbols to help you maximize what you recycle. Our product guide cross references the materials used and the corresponding recycling symbols, providing a breakdown for each Neora product as well as instructions for disassembly to maximize recyclability.

Just make sure to cross check with your local recycler to see what they can and cannot accept. Municipal recyclers typically accept 1 and 2 of the 7 recyclable plastic categories, but don’t fret, because there are private recycling centers such as Terracycle,² which can recycle the less traditional bits for free.

We hope that our recent efforts to make our beauty containers more sustainable will motivate you to recycle your empty Neora cosmetic containers and to more easily recycle Neora products into your household recycling routine.
